Local Counsel Services

Litigation

Henson Efron’s highly capable litigation team can assist with your local counsel needs in Minnesota’s state and federal courts. We routinely work with attorneys and law firms from other states to obtain pro hac vice admission for them to appear in our courts for a particular case or matter,1 advise on local practice, laws, rules, regulations, and procedures, and provide tactical, strategic, and logistical support and services throughout the engagement, including:

FAST AND EFFICIENT CONFLICT CLEARANCE
When your client is involved in litigation, time is often of the essence. That is why it is important that any firm you contact regarding a potential local counsel engagement be able to quickly tell you whether it has or may have a conflict of interest that would prevent the firm from accepting the engagement. Unlike many of our peers, we are not affiliated with a national firm that has dozens of offices in different states and cities. Instead, all our lawyers are in one, central office—which means that if you ask us to clear a conflict check, you can expect an answer within the hour.

RESPECT FOR CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS
When Henson Efron accepts a local counsel engagement, it does so with the understanding that the out-of-state client already has a primary attorney or law firm on which it relies for legal advice and services, and with which it has an established relationship. That is why we take on only those assignments that are delegated to us by the referring firm, work with and at the direction of the referring firm to achieve a successful outcome in our jurisdiction, and then say “so long” until the next time we may be called upon. As local counsel we have no expectation of developing a long-term relationship with a referring firm’s client, and we do not actively solicit business from a local counsel client during our engagement or after it has terminated.

CONVENIENTLY LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS
Henson Efron’s modern and efficient offices in downtown Minneapolis’ Capella Tower are located directly across the street from the busy Hennepin County Government Center and Courthouse, and just a block from the United States District Courthouse—both skyway connected. We are just a quick 26-minute ride from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport on the METRO Blue Line light rail, or a short cab or rideshare away. And, because we are located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, we are within walking distance—either outside or indoors via the Minneapolis skyway system—to dozens of first-class hotels and restaurants.

ALL OF YOUR NEEDS IN ONE BUILDING
Regardless of the size of your case or the number of parties involved, our offices are equipped with the conference space, and technology needed for in-person or remote meetings, depositions, and hearings.
