The conversation highlighted the many areas that challenge the smooth transition of business from one generation to another such as agreeing on valuation and letting go of control when the time comes. Jennie emphasized the importance of business owners starting early to create an exit plan with the help of experts and revisiting it on a regular basis to keep it relevant. There are many options available in determining the future of a family-owned business and the panel participants agreed that understanding those options and being proactive is key to a successful transition or sale.
